A stalwart of the Irish Chess Union, hailing from Kilkenny. An arbiter, organiser, ICU officer, coach, editor of the Irish Chess Union (my memory, perhaps fallible, suggests he was an editor of Fiacla Fichile before that). A strong club player, I remember venturing as a youth one of those rubbish gambits that old books used to recommend against his French Defence; he smashed me off the board. An important lesson learned: many of those old books are dodgy, and their authors would take no responsibility for the effect of their scribblings on anyone else's results.
Rest in Peace

But the editor of Fiacle Fichille was Tom O'Sullivan whom, I believe, is still with us...

Oh, as I initially suggested, a misplaced memory.Tim Harding wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 11:52 amBut the editor of Fiacle Fichille was Tom O'Sullivan whom, I believe, is still with us...
Funnily, as a teenager I stayed several times with Tom O' Sullivan when playing in tournaments in Dublin. He was a great and kind host.
