I am sorry to report that Ron Henderson has died.
He passed away on Christmas Day.
Ron co-founded Bangor Chess Club in the 1960s and had played continuously there since then.
On 2nd November 2019, Bangor Chess Club awarded club founder Ron Henderson with a Honorary Life Membership.
Ron was very well respected in the Ulster chess world and was an inspiration to the juniors.

That is sad news. Ron was a stalwart of Ulster Chess, not only a middling to good club player, but also a capable organiser at Bangor CC, one of Northern Ireland's longest established chess clubs. The obituary given by Ken Browne is indeed correct, Ron was a gentleman. I last played him as a late teen in May 1986 in the Belfast Civic Festival, a Vienna Opening in which I played the White side of a Frankenstein-Dracula. We both soon bottled out of the complicated lines and settled into a quiet middlegame with heavy pieces, in which I fortuitously nicked a loose pawn and won.
