Alan Shrimpton

Post by Simon Rogers » Sun Jan 31, 2021 11:52 am

I am sorry to report that Alan Shrimpton has died. He passed away the weekend of 16th/17th January after a sustained period of health problems.
Alan was a member for many years of Walsall Kipping Chess Club. He was the oldest and longest serving member of the club and joined it in the 1960s.
His first recorded game for Walsall, in fact, was in the 1967-68 season of the Wolverhampton League.
From then to 1974-75 he was the Captain of the club's second team, which for six years was in Division 1.
Since then, Alan played continuously in teams in all the West Midlands leagues.
There is a tribute by the Walsall Kipping Secretary, Mike Groombridge on the Birmingham & District Chess League and the Wolverhampton and District League websites.
RIP
