Post by Simon Rogers » Fri Oct 23, 2020 8:20 pm

It was announced on the Leicestershire and Rutland Chess Association website a few days ago, that John Mitchell, has died after a long illness.
John played for Loughborough Chess Club. He captained the first team and also played for the Leicestershire county team.
Jon won the Loughborough Lightning tournament a number of years and won the Loughborough Club Championship in the mid 1990s.
In the past, John was also involved with the Leicestershire junior chess programme.
Condolences to his family and friends.

A true polymath, John played chess for London and Hertfordshire and later for Leicestershire. He was an active member of Loughborough Chess Club for 50 years and was committed to helping the development of junior chess players.

Hi Simon, I think you are referring to the other thread on this, started by Gerard Killoran here (where he links to a Guardian obituary):

I've sent a message to Carl asking for the Topics to be merged.
I have also asked Carl to move the Michael Steen Birthday from page 2 of Chess History to Birthdays and Anniversaries.

Done. (It's a lot easier for that sort of thing to get done if you use the Report function.)

There should be an exclamation mark at the top of a post.

Thanks Jack. I've seen a couple of Deaths and Obituaries of adults Topics in the Junior Chess Category which I'll send with the report function.
