I am sorry to report the terrible news that Bob Jones has died.
He passed away peacefully in hospital after a short illness on Friday 12th June 2020.
It was reported in the Thetford & Brandon Times on Friday 26th June.
Robert (Bob) Jones turned 90 on 25th February 2020 with an excellent appreciation of his chess career on the Suffolk Chess Association back then along with a picture posted by the younger Bob Jones (not related).
Bob set up the Brandon King's Gambit Chess Club in Suffolk and became Secretary.
A true giant of East Anglian Chess.
RIP

He also ran the Bury St Edmunds Congress for many years, so would have been known outside the local area.

There is another Bob Jones who runs the Bury St Edmunds Congress. I spoke to him on the phone this morning. Unless the older one ran it beforehand. I have been informed they are not related.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 3:22 pmHe also ran the Bury St Edmunds Congress for many years, so would have been known outside the local area.
