Post by Simon Rogers » Sun Nov 15, 2020 2:15 pm

It was reported the beginning of March that Stanislav Bogdanovich and Alexandra Vernigora had died.
They both died 5th March and were found in their Moscow flat by Alexandra's mum Nataliya who apparently owned the property.
Stanislav was a 27 year old Ukrainian Chess Champion and his girlfriend, Alexandra, was also a top Chess player.
Media reports say Stanislav and Alexandra were found with balloons containing the gas, nitrous oxide.
Stanislav Bogdanovich was a speed chess champion and a Grandmaster from Odessa, who won the Ukrainian Under-18 championship and various Chess awards at international tournaments.
In 2015, he was rated eighth in the world for speed (blitz) chess.
He also once played 210 moves for a win in the Ukrainian Championship.
Alexandra Vernigora was also a professional Chess player and was studying at Moscow State University.
There was an excellent tribute published by GM Mikhail Golubev dated 3rd April on the Chessbase.com website.
There was also this report on the BBC News website:

This has previously been discussed in a thread in the "General Section", I believe, Simon.
