I am sorry to report that it was announced the end of last year, on the Yorkshire Chess Association website that Sam Scurfield had died at the age of 64 from cancer.
Sam played for South Bradford Chess Club for over 30 years and was the current President of the Bradford & District Chess Association.
Sam taught chess for Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC) since 2014. Teaching in many schools across Leeds/Bradford. He helped arrange a simul for the local MP Rachel Reeves. There was an excellent tribute posted by Dan Staples, CSC Yorkshire Coordinator with a picture of Rachel Reeves.
There was a tribute in the Guardian on the 24th March by Barbara Abbott.
