Graham Lightfoot RIP

Post by Simon Rogers » Sat Oct 31, 2020 3:25 pm

I am sad to report the news that Graham Lightfoot died on Wednesday 4th December 2019.
Graham played for Rugby Chess Club and was club secretary from about 1968 to 1999.
He steered the club to a win against Cambridge and then Oxford Universities in 1982, making Rugby Chess Club national club champions.
The team included two young men called Mark Hebden and Keith Arkell (who would both become Grand Masters). Also Bob Wildig was in the team.
The following year, the team went to the USSR, to represent English chess.
There is an excellent tribute on the Rugby Chess Club website.
