I've only just noticed this via the Wolverhampton league website: http://www.wdclchess.org.uk/wiki/index. ... P.D.Porter
He had played for Wolverhampton chess club since 1984 and played for Staffordshire including during my four years as county captain in the early 1990s.

Prior to that, he lived in High Wycombe, played for the Wycombe club, in the Bucks Individual and also for the Bucks county first team.LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 8:44 pmHe had played for Wolverhampton chess club since 1984 and played for Staffordshire including during my four years as county captain in the early 1990s.
I don't know when precisely he came to Bucks, but my first game against him was at the Berks & Bucks Congress in 1971. Presumably he moved back to the Midlands around 1984.
In those days, he had a liking for the Dutch and the Bird's, particularly in a reverse Leningrad style.
I once contrived to set up almost a Double Leningrad Dutch against him with the White pieces in a 1975 League game.
The opening ran
eventually reaching a drawn Rook ending.
