Could I thank everyone who contributed towards John's funeral which takes place this Thursday 19th November at Wilford Hill Crematorium, Nottingham. Because of Covid restrictions only 30 mourners are allowed and all places have been filled.
If anyone wants more details please let me know.

Re: John Calvert
I didn't recognise the name at first. Then I looked at the picture. I think I spoke to John after one of my games in the graded Championships at Sheffield 2011, then in the afternoons while watching the Grandmaster games.
I'm sure he came to watch when the British took place in Llandudno 2017.
John wasn't the strongest of players, but he had a real passion for the game and for John it was more than just a hobby.
I think he enjoyed watching more than playing. He enjoyed the social side and chatting to other Chess players from around the country at tournaments.
A great picture of John wearing his Chess Tie and showing off his Chess badges on his jacket which summed him up.
A great ambassador for the true meaning of chess.
RIP

Re: John Calvert
I've unearthed two more images of John Calvert this time from the British Championships at Ayr in 1978.
Hopefully you can spot JC fairly easily.
Only one badge in 1978.

He was a real chess supporter.
RIP John
I can't keep up with so many deaths.
Depressingly it will take the total reported to 138.
