Jacoba `Cobie` Ives
Within Yorkshire the death of Cobie Ives has been reported at the age of 97, sadly a victim of the Coronavirus outbreak. While the name was unfamiliar to many, including myself, she may well have been the first woman to represent Yorkshire at adult chess.

Her daughter Ingrid has asked me to post the following:
I’ve noticed a few articles popping up since the obituary appeared online.
This one -> https://mannchess.org.uk/People/Ives,Ro ... Jacoba.htm is accurate except that Joseph Percival and Lucy Daphne had four children, not two. The other two were Beatrice and Gladys (the latter was known by her middle name, Margaret).

"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

That was very kind of her. It goes to show that such cuttings are of interest to a wide audience as well as to the family, and are very well worth keeping.Carl Hibbard wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 3:30 pmHer daughter Ingrid has asked me to post the following:

I agree - it's fascinating looking at such material. She was obviously very determined.

Yes, interesting notes. Some - admittedly not all - of the photos remind me of the occasional Yorkshire resident and chess player Agatha Christie.
