A bit of detective work (eg his opponent having a GDR flag above his name) suggests Pietzsch V Spassky, 1962 Varna Olympiad.

As a corrective to what I had to say about Spassky's endgame prowess, I should point out his superb bishop ending in the Byrne match.

It may be fair to say though that the win was found by Bondarevsky! Those were the days of extensive adjournment analysis.

One of life's missed opportunities.
It's rare to have the chance to play against two of the greatest universal players the chess world has ever known.

Possibly it's much more difficult to do so, in todays ultra commercial, elite chess world.

Maybe Magnus, could launch a similar tournament and bring the stars closer to the people?
It is rare yes, John - in 49 years of competitive chess I've only ever played 2 World Champions over the board one on one, and in both cases the game was played before they got the title.

Forgive the stupid question - is the second Boris in Image #12 Boris Gulko?

And who are the other people in image #13?

Does it say "SEVILLE" on the wall poster? A clue to the event, maybe?

I'm pretty confident we have Spasski and Gulko yes. Not sure of the event / date / photographer.

Perhaps the man with the moustache in image #12 is Tamaz Giorgadze. According to this page he was Chiburdanidze's trainer:

Yes, Tamaz Giorgadze looks right. Might it have been one of the Linares events?

Chiburdanidze played in the 1988 Linares super tournament (and finished bottom) but Spassky didn't.
