Surely the most (in)famous handshake refusal was long before that, in Karpov v Korchnoi at Baguio 1978 , with the sequel at Phillips & Drew several years later when they reclinched to applause from the audience.

The refusal in 1978 was Karpov's, in game 8, the first decisive game of the match. I have always thought that this contributed much to Korchnoi's poor play in that game, and not just because Keene said so (obviously).

Ah, you must have been there...
I was there at Philips and Drew, when Korchnoi arrived a few minutes late and walked straight over and spoke a few words to Karpov. They shook hands and we all wondered what was going on. It seems Korchnoi said something like, "Sorry I'm late, the lift got stuck".

It is also the correct response. In the same way that the result of the Brexit referendum is fixed for all time, the grading list of 2017 should continue to apply in perpetuity. Definitely.

Shame about the delay. I need the info to enter a tournament on Saturday so I'm going back to the organiser to say my entry and his money is not going to be in his bank account until Thursday. I'm also going to inform him of RMT strike and revised timetables on Sat 28th.
Will it mean the August revision will be a bit later? A League meeting on Thurs 16th August in the evening amongst other chess admin duties we have in August & Early September.

It’s only a “delay” as a result of Brian’s earlier post! Surely Saturday’s tournament in Kingston will be using January’s grades anyway?

There's a strong rumour that, post Brexit, ECF will arrange to repatriate its abacus, in which case delays of this type will be a thing of the past.
