144942E Crosswell, Neil * 192 1 192 Guildford (1 game Surrey league December submission 2019-2020)
269753B Crosswell, Neil M E 119 9 1072 Guildford (NEW player 2019)

Who is responsible for setting this player up as a new player, when he is clearly already on the master-list?
Whilst a code starting 144... is one of the originals from the mid 1980s, a code starting 269... is by no means new and must have been lurking on the master list for years.
Correct. My grading records show that 266nnn codes were being allocated in June 2006 and 270nnn codes in June 2007.

If you look in the online ECF Grading list for 269753B you'll find that the grading history list goes back to the 2006-07 season and if you then look for games played in 2006-07 you'll find the "Spectrum Portsmouth Major U165". So whoever graded that event is probably responsible for the code being created.

Wow Ian, spectacular. I'm very impressed.

You're the sort of chap we need running the grading for the ECF.

Anyway, I will submit as previously (by Mike Gunn) as 144942E and ask for a merge.
Though, so far haven't had any replies from Matthew Carr.

This was noticed in January and a merge requested then.

Grading and entries into the database clearly involve humans, and humans are not perfect. As a mere player, I appreciate their commitment (both as graders and tournament organisers).

That only 28 possible "obvious" duplicates were found is quite impressive! So, frankly, not a lot to see here! Maybe the system can be improved (could it do an exact duplicate check and offer "are you sure") but the possibilities are endless.

We, as graded players, have a role to play here... we should be checking our own entries. In my case, youngest daughter gained a duplicate in the initial January release. A quick email, and it was fixed. No fuss needed.

Yes, but membership to the ECF should NOT be accepted without a date of birth. Maybe, even photographic proof like I've had to provide to several on-line bookmakers. It's called KYC - Know Your Customer. 100% infallible. You cannot register with more than one account (under your own name  ).
