Meaning of "Performance Rating" w.r.t. ECF rating

Post by Arnav Sud » Sun Jun 05, 2022 8:16 pm

I just returned from the Cotswold Congress 2022 - well done to the organisers for making it a fabulous event!

Quick question - what is the meaning of "Performance Rating" on the Chess-Results website? How does it translate into an ECF rating (if at all)?

Thanks!

It is, roughly speaking, the number we would estimate your rating to be if the only information we had was that tournament.

As far as I know, they're not used except for calculating the ratings of previously unrated players.

Be careful. Quite often website performance ratings ignore the performer's rating, so beating a 1300 counts as a 1700 performance even if your rating is 1900.

Do you know if the chess-results performance ratings do this?

I am fairly sure they do, which is why rating gain or loss is then a better guide to performance.
