Bureaucratic inertia does seem to be at least part of it here.

Hastings & St Leonards Chess Club reopened on 4th July. Coulsdon Chess Fellowship are looking at restarting on 1st September.

Both those organisations have the enormous advantage of having their own premises. Their initial activities are likely to be confined to internal events.

However, I would expect both to submit some results for ECF grading before the end of the year.

This seems a thorough and well thought out risk assessment but makes pretty sober reading. Maybe it is just me but having to follow all these procedures in order to have a game of chess doesn't sound much fun at all. In addition in the case of most weekend congresses there is the risk of public transport and staying in a hotel.
Lets hope things improve next year and I look forward to seeing you on the circuit again

That looks like an adapted version of the ECF *template*. Has an assessment actually been carried out? If yes, what was the outcome?

All sorts of risks by touch are listed in the template. But if you were unfortunate enough to have someone infectious at a chess event, are plastic chess pieces and boards really an avenue for infection? Are metal buttons on some models of analogue clocks more dangerous than the plastic ones on others and on DGT digitals? Equipment locked away in a cupboard for six months would be clean.

which is entirely sensible. Why do your own? CCF do have the option that there are two main doors, so they could implement a one-way system for people arriving and leaving as well.

1.5 reminded me of a visit to the Gents at work some years ago, where a colleague finished washing his hands and then got a paper towel from the dispenser so he could open the door to the corridor without touching it with his bare hands. Some of us scientists do that without a pandemic...

Are we expecting a August update for grades this week?
Just wandering, as the Blackpool Chess Congress results have not been included in my grade. I only played about 6 long play games since the turn of the year and 4 of them were at Blackpool.
I had a very good Blackpool and just missed out on the prizes, so the results will have a big effect on my grade.
I've also had a few teammates asking me aswell.

There is to be an August update, though when exactly I don't know.

The August upgrade has now been published

Either late last night or this morning they have since been updated to include the Blackpool Chess Congress.
As a result, my grade has increased.
