July 2019 grades......
...... are now out.
Re: July 2019 grades......
The first year ever when there was no "When Are The Grades Out" thread
Well done to the Chief Grader, who clearly fell out of his hammock in time to press button A on the grading machine

I think most weren't expecting them until the end of the week, hence no thread

Re: July 2019 grades......
Just as I was thinking I could play for the Surrey U180 team next season it has been pointed out to me that SCCA Main League 2018/19 (standard) Autumn games have been graded twice, so I may still be ineligible.

Oops, the Surrey foul up is down to me - unaccountably I used a different event code in January to the one I normally use.

Wasn't there talk that there was going to be a conversion to 4 figure elo ratings?

That was for the future, it being suggested that current plans have that for the list as at the end of December 2019 at the earliest.Mark D Podlesak wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 8:51 pmWasn't there talk that there was going to be a conversion to 4 figure elo ratings?

And what about the more frequent lists thing?

.. but also down to the ECF for not warning that new results were duplicates of previously submitted results.
But then that isn't even done by the Results File Checker within a single results file - you get a warning if an entire match is a duplicate of another entire match, but nothing if an individual result is duplicated within either a match or "Other Results".

Re: July 2019 grades......
I think out early as they want us to register pay next years fee early with the blue beer voucher price increase rather than wait until 31/8 when our membership expires.
This time last year 3 members of my club were aiming for minus 10 BUT 2 OF US are plus 10. The other not quite minus 10.
Next year we can then moan about our new four numbers.

Oops looks like Surrey has August adjustments so we ought to alert our clubs.

Have only just noticed this. No real surprises to my eye so maybe the tumult of ten yeas ago is well over by now; in terms of relative ordering, at least. It still seems to me that most players are some five to ten points higher than would have been expected more than ten years ago. Presumably that is a minor point, and just a new reality to which we can adapt.

Are you supposed to use the same event code, for the league results, but increment the submission number by one? That way you can submit the same file, but only the new games and results are calculated - rather than duplicating the whole set.
This is interesting because I had a similar issue submitting graded games from Hendon Chess Club using the LMS.

From page 1 of the Grader's Guide:
"Reporting a league in two halves is technically straightforward. You send a half-finished result file at the halfyear, then the same file again in its final form - with all the season’s results in - when the league is complete. Both files must have the same Event Code, but the second needs a larger submission number (see further down). "
