After a draw in their opening match, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire affirmed their position with wins over Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

Three matches have already taken place in 2019. With five points from three games Lincolnshire have already confirmed their position as one of the three MCCU qualifiers; the remaining two places will depend on the final four matches.

Nottinghamshire with a last gasp win over Worcestershire now qualify for the Minor Counties. Worcestershire fielded an IM and WGM on their top two boards. The last place will go to either Warwickshire or Leicestershire.

Lincolnshire slipped up in their last match against Warwickshire who must now hope that Leicestershire fail to win either of their two remaining matches.

Leics beat Notts result

I gather that Leics are entering the Open at National stages, along with G Man

Does the MCCU still get 3 entries to the Minor? I assume Warks qualify if so, along with Notts & Lincs

My opinions about the MCCU ignoring it's own rules are not repeatable on this forum. I have sent an e-mail to the MCCU Controller about this.
Addn :- It has now been confirmed that the MCCU only have two nominations into the national stages.

It would be nice if people from your way could sort out their differences! I am ignorant of the historical rights & wrongs and am happy to remain so.

Seriously, from where I sit ( in London ) there isn't much that needs fixing. We play a season of matches against local counties with familiar faces and then, all being well, there are one or two trips to the Midlands to play against people we don't know so well. The fact that it has been that way for many decades is not it itself a reason to change the format.

it is Lancashire who don't want us and it will never change till
A) we give up become a county and become Lancashire 2 (that what they offer us)
B form a new union

I do think we need to move with the times, as you can see that players will prefer to play 4ncl chess then county chess and you can see that from the defaults etc.

I had to listen to someone at the ECF meeting telling us that we should drop this and leave it as it is?
you need to move with the time and there people who don't want to play just one game, and love the 4ncl format

Sorry John, that won't do. As I explained, and you do not respond, for players in the Southeast the County Championship works pretty well. I suspect if it doesn't work well where you are, the only reason is that your people can't get along, which isn't the CC's fault.

I do accept that if I lived in Dorset or Cumberland I might feel that the event did not suit me. I would certainly be interested to hear what they want, but it isn't my place to guess that.

The principal reason county teams die in the south-west seems mainly to be through lack of captains.
