BBC football coverage is truly awful

Post by Dewi Jones » Mon Jun 02, 2014 4:25 pm

Here we go again a major football tournament and the BBC show themselves for exactly what they are

BBC's top 10 world cup moments-

10 England beat minor country in group stage
9 England beat another minor country in group stage
8 England score against a bigger country
7 England blah, blah, blah
6 England blah, blah, blah
5 England blah, blah, blah
4 England blah, blah, blah
3 England blah, blah, blah
2 England blah, blah, blah
1 England lift trophy in 1966

You mean this? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26455673 If you do, it doesn't seem to be as English centric as your post suggests.

I do, but you'll notice the top 10 are not yet given in that post. The rest is pretty England centric (at a quick count 21 out of 90 are about England, 5% of them are about David Beckham!)

The post is a prediction based on all the crap I've heard for weeks from John Motson and his type on Radio 5 with their great world cup memories. As if an average midfielder like Platt scroing in the second round is something comprable to Maradonna's 1986 world cup, Brazils perfect goal from 1970, Marco Tardelli scoring the winner for Italy in '82, Zidannes head butt, Schumacher knocking out Battiston

I watched all the video shorts of previous tournaments on the BBC site, an interesting trip down memory lane plus footage of the events before I was born

You might find this one worth a watch

There are some nice videos on YouTube of pre-war World Cups, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjIyZi8wOzU

It includes colour footage of the 1930 World Cup Final. Not sure when referees stopped wearing suits...!
