ETTA makes direct membership compulsory

Post by John Upham » Thu Jul 29, 2010 11:12 am

Whilst at a table tennis match last night we were informed that that ETTA has decided to make direct membership compulsory.

The annual fee per player is roughly £5.50

This gives each player a unique ID for England.

I asked for the motivation behind this developement and was told that it was done to present data to Sport England to increase funding.

I agreed.

Do you think it will reduce or increase participation though?

IMHO the fee is low enough to not put off people taking up the sport.

The persons gathered felt it was sensible and they had no objection to it.

I believe also a national rating system will emerge whereas only a top play ranking system exists right now.

I supported it and told them how antiquated and backward national chess membership was : they laughed!

I also play TT. Last season we paid £15 League registration and £3 match fee. Our big expense is hiring the Leisure Centre.
