Sideways

Post by James Pratt » Sun Feb 05, 2023 6:52 pm

In 'Two Cheers for Democracy' the author EM Forster puts forward the thought that 'what goes in sideways goes in deepest'. Or something like that. Now BBC Radio 4 have gone one step nearer and on Wednesday of this week thinking caps on for 'Sideways' 4.00pm 30 mins. Here Matthew Syed asks when we are expected to reach our peak and offers the example of mathematician and GM John Nunn who apparently learnt chess at 4. Mind you, by that time the Polgars were filling every trophy cabinet with medals and receiving, I'm sure, more than two cheers.

I listened to this today. Very good and John was came across very well.

Yesterday I played through his game v Nathan Birnboim in the Feb 2023 CHESS, Danny King used it. An excellent game.

Takes a bit of time to see that Black is totally lost in the final position, very nice.
