Week 4

If you don’t believe you are the best, then you will never achieve all that you are capable of. Cristiano Ronaldo

Well the big hitters are back. Ronaldo, Lukaku & Edouard all score twice - whilst Antonio scores -2! and a week in the sin bin. Joel Newman moves up to top of Premier Chess with the high score of 89 points jointly shared with Rob Ensor who emerges from the depths of Sheet Three. The three lowest scores of the week came from the bottom three players in the League with David Blower looking to cement his position holding the rest up with a minimal score of 19 points which at 7,958,520th is the worst of the season so far.

1 Lanzini'sLamborghini Joel Newman 89 335
2 Farcelona Richard York-Weaving 69 331
3 Hope Springs David Egginton 71 326
4 Gini Mini Mane Mo Matthew Timbrell 76 323
5= AlapinForTheWin Jude Shearsby 75 321
5= Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 73 321

Finally The Sack Race is on - first Premier League manager to go - Mikel Arteta at evens; least likely Thomas Tuchel - 80/1

Week 5

We signed to play until the day we died, and we did. Jimmy Greaves RIP (20/02/1940-22/09/2021)

In a reprise of Week 4, Joel Newman again topped the rankings with a score of 85 points this time shared with Colin Patterson, whilst David Blower on 14 points was once more firmly fixed to the floor having been overtaken by Daniel Gliddon who started in Week 2. David's score which was 8,109,217th was also a new all-time-low. It's early days yet though with Joel trailing the leading team by a mere 38 points but 950+ positions whilst in Premier Chess only 18 teams are within a 50 point reach of our leader after five weeks.

1 Lanzini'sLamborghini Joel Newman 85 416
2 Just Arsene About David Egginton 73 399
3 Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 73 394
4 Zwischenzug Anthony Kent 74 393
5 Cancelo Culture Alex Leslie 74 388

The Sack Race - quick update is that Arteta has moved out to 5/2 with Steve Bruce now a clear second favourite at 10/3

Week 6

What a striker and a true gentleman John Aldridge recalls Roger Hunt who passed away yesterday (20/7/38-27/09/21)

Joel Newman maintains his position at the top of Premier Chess whilst his challengers shuffle around in his wake. However from experience Quarter 2 will be where the real action begins. The top score of the week (79) was from David Lambert with a staggering 2,000,000+ rise in position. We discussed his team name "Hibbert for England" sometime ago in a previous report. Tony Hibbert was a one-man club and played throughout his career for Everton; astonishingly in 328 appearances in all competitions he never scored. Talking of never scoring we turn our attention once again to David Blower who has made the low score for a third successive week with 13 points - which was 8,219,921th and broke the record set last week.

1 Lanzini'sLamborghini Joel Newman 50 466
2 Cancelo Culture Alex Leslie 60 448
3 Just Arsene Around David Egginton 46 441
4 Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 45 439
5 Gini Mini Mane Mo Matthew Timbrell 53 438

Finally Next week I'll be looking at some other chess leagues and there are plenty of them in Fantasy Football. Though in some you can still be Number One. https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagu ... tandings/c

Week 7

It's been a wonderful journey and it concluded in a way that I neither expected nor wished for," Xisco Munoz becomes the first Premier League manager to be sacked this season - he is replaced at Watford by Claudio Ranieri.

It was a remarkably low scoring week with the average a mere 38 points. In my case I had two Everton midfielders Gray & Townsend in my squad. Guess which one I left on the bench? :( Joel Newman hits the 500 point mark leading David Blower by a massive 340+ points after just 7 weeks; if Joel continues at the current rate his final score could be well in excess of 2,500. However neither of the aforementioned players were top or bottom this week. Best score was Nick London with 65 points whilst Stephen Whitehead could only find 15 points - a new low of 8,256,559th.

1 Lanzini'sLamborghini Joel Newman 41 507
2= Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 50 489
2= Gini Mini Mane Mo Matthew Timbrell 55 489
4 Cancelo Culture Alex Leslie 44 488
5 Zwischenzug Anthony Kent 51 484

Finally Is @FPL_Chess♞ (twitter) (52020) a chess players league? Perhaps someone can tell me. Other than this here are a few leagues with plenty of names you may recognise:- The Catalan Fan Club (172441); Clevedon Chess (8946); Chess Players (691160); The Chess Pit (485637); (Leicestershire Chess Players (1300725); West is Best (482587). Week 8

""I wanted so badly to make it work." Steve Bruce leaves Newcastle United by mutual consent.

In the biggest turnaround since Dick Whittington was leaving London, astonishingly our top scorer of the week was David Blower who scored a magnificent 95 points courtesy of 20 points for captain Bobby Firmino with triple captain chip played up to 60 points. Despite this David is still in 135th and bottom place but is this a renaissance for our back marker? However the low score of the week of 18 points by Chris James means that he is now just a solitary point above David and also in 8,356,480th place breaking our low game week score record. Meanwhile in the congested top of the table Richard York-Weaving is back in first position.

1 Farcelona Richard York-Weaving 75 554
2 Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 64 553
3 Gini Mini Mane Mo Matthew Timbrell 60 549
4 Lanzini'sLamborghini Joel Newman 49 548
5 Zwischenzug Anthony Kent 61 545

Week 9

"The whole performance wasn't good enough, that's for sure" Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

It was a week of success if you picked Salah, Mount and Josh King (to name but three)...... but if you selected Vardy, Ronaldo and Kane...... In a week of high scores plenty of Premier Chess managers achieved treble figures (seven in fact), top scorer was Kaia Means with 124 points whilst Chris James cemented his position at the bottom of the League with a low score of 24 points. David Egginton with second highest points of the week moved back to league first position.

1 Just Arsene Around David Egginton 119 661
2 Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 102 655
3 Farcelona Richard York-Weaving 89 643
4= Melvinho XI Melvin Pool 98 636
4= Cancelo Culture Alex Leslie 97 636

Overall Gangster's Allardyce managed by Daniel Masson-Abraham leads with a massive 735 points.

Week 10

"It's never easy for a new manager brought in during the season." Hugo Lloris. Nuno Espirito Santo sacked by Spurs.

The Managerial roundabout in the Premier continues as Antonio Conte is brought in to replace Nuno who was in post for just four months and a handful of games. This is the prime time to sack managers as new men need to be in place before the January transfer window opens. Dean Smith (Villa) is the new man under pressure at 2/1 whilst those who fancy an outsider can go with Tuchel, Klopp or Guardiola at 100/1. Mind you what do I know - I put Ederson in goal rather than Guaita this gameweek? Meanwhile despite Nick Grey's question to which the answer was "No" we find that Luke Hayden is at the summit this week with 81 points whilst Daniel Gliddon is in the foothills with 17 points breaking our low score record in 8,439.818th place.

1 Just Arsene Around David Egginton 42 703
2 Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 44 699
3 Lanzini'sLamborghini Joel Newman 65 691
4 Melvinho XI Melvin Pool 54 690
5 Don't Shoot Vinny Paul Cooksey 62 689

Finally The same leader as last week - but I see that "CHANGE NAME" now holds both 21st & 24th spot. No doubt there are plenty more of these elsewhere.

Quarter One Report - Weeks 1 to 10

We have a look back at the first quarter of the season. It seems as if we are heading for record scores , though of course there are several barriers in the way (notably the African Nations Cup which will affect several key players). No manager has graced the top five places for every week however the three front runners Joel Newman, David Egginton and Sam Herring have scored consistently but Quarter Two normally identifies those managers who will challenge right to the season's end. The usual methodology is employed namely five points for a first place down to one for fifth - with the number of featured weeks in brackets; 50 would be maximum points. Managers need two scoring weeks to qualify.

1. Joel Newman 33 pts (8)
2. David Egginton 31 pts (8)
3. Sam Herring 22 pts (7)
4. Richard York-Weaving 18 pts (5)
5. Matthew Timbrell 10 pts (4)
6. Alec Leslie 9 pts (4)
7. Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 7 pts (3)
8. Cameron Henry 6 pts (2)
9. Anthony Kent 4 pts (3)
10. Melvin Pool 4 pts (2)

I assume now having looked at your current team that your initial strategy of picking solely Brentford (or ex-Brentford) players has been abandoned.

I can only pick nine. But yes I left three on the bench last week. Or rather the week before last, since I forgot last week.

Quarter One Weeks 1-10 - Consistency Statistics

A marvellous new service - or probably not. Regular readers of this thread (I believe there are some) will know that there is a report at the end of each quarter on top team performances. In addition to that I will now provide a report on high/low scores of all managers each quarter of which this is the first.

Quite surprisingly of the 135 managers in Premier Chess some 67 managed to appear as a top five high scorer or a bottom five low scorer.
Many of these visits were for a fleeting single week; however some eight managers did distinguish themselves by appearing in three or more weeks.
Joel Newman top scored in three weeks (15 pts) to be the top high scorer whilst at the other end of the spectrum Chris James was in the low score list for six weeks to score -17 points. Not to be outdone the most astonishing figure came from David Blower who was lowest scorer for four weeks plus another couple of low scores but stuck in the middle (the week of Triple captain Bobby Firmino), he outpointed every one of the other 134 managers.

Here are the figures High Scores (from +5 for best score of the week, down to +1 for 5th highest+ ) Number of weeks in brackets

1. Joel Newman 15pts (3)
2. David Egginton 11pts (3)
3. Nick London 9 pts (3)
4= Paul Cooksey 8 pts (2)
4= Kaia Means 8 pts (2)

Low scores (from -5 for low score of the week, down to -1 for 5th lowest)

1. David Blower -18 pts (7)
2. Chris James -17pts (6)
3. Mark Page -10 (2)
4. Daniel Gliddon -9 (2)
5= Simon Brown -6 (2)
5= Paul Talbot -6 (2)

Week 11

"Norwich City is delighted to confirm the appointment of Dean Smith as the club’s new head coach." Club website.

Eight days after being sacked by Aston Villa, Dean Smith is appointed as manager of Norwich in the merry-go-round that is the Premier Division. To date with 29% of the season completed, 28% of the managers have been sacked (5 out of 18). Since Week 10 both Daniel Farke and Dean Smith have been shown the door. As can be seen above Smith who received compensation from Villa of around £3million walked straight into a new job. If we follow the stats above, logically every manager will be sacked before the end of the season - however the next candidate is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is odds-on. Meanwhile with the high score of the week, Paul Cooksey accelerates past Joel's Lamborghini to sit in pole position whilst Hendrick Hoffmann's "one legged men" are in the pits with the week's low score.

1 Don't Shoot Vinny Paul Cooksey 83 772
2 Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 68 767
3 Melvinho XI Melvin Pool 70 760
4 Lanzini'sLamborghini Joel Newman 62 753
5 Just Arsene Around David Egginton 48 751

Finally 02/Nov - Neil Warnock breaks the record for most games in league management with a total of 1,602. 05/Nov Neil Warnock sacked by Middlesboro'.
