Question about Homer Simpson

I asked the following question on a pub quiz forum

"Who was the first actor to portray Homer Simpson and in what year?"

To date, zero correct answers.

Sans Search Engine, what do you think?

I suppose I'd better ask the first question: is the question about a character other than the protagonist of The Simpsons?

Why not chance your arm?

I'll confirm that it is not an actor who merely voiced Homer Simpson but an actor who played him.

This question might plague me, well for 24 hours anyway.
The very north of Scotland might be a clue to the actor, especially if he has no trousers!

I've been attempting to con the the Googlers with tricky questions as a diversion from the tedious popular culture questions which pollute many a pub quiz.

I was waiting for Jack to answer this but I'll post anyway.

The first actor to portray Homer Simpson was Donald Sutherland in the John Schlesinger directed 1975 film

The Day of the Locust.

A film not for the faint hearted.

As everyone knows the first actor to voice the Matt Groening created Homer Simpson was Dan Castellaneta on April 19th, 1987 on the Tracey Ullman Show short "Good Night".
