Never mind the 80s, what’s everyone listening to today?
Okay pop-pickers. Never mind what you were listening to in the 80s, what are you listening now? Can you list the last five CDs/downloaded Albums you’ve bought (or someone bought for you)? My list goes back about six months, with the latest three post-Christmas 2020. I suspect we'll end up with a mixed bag? So here's my list with links to some of the songs:
The Lumineers: Lumineers III https://www.npr.org/2020/04/06/82532106 ... sk-concert
The late John Prine: Fair & Square https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZv4R6VBqp4

With youtube so comprehensive, it's a long time since I have found the need to buy anything.

Alexa, play the The Navigator by Hurray for the Riff-Raff.
I'm a sucker for an amusing band name, but quite enjoying it so far too.

I listen to black metal, death metal and 80s synth pop. No post 1988 pop music at all.

I also don't feel the need to buy much music these days. And I don't listen to much new music. But here are five albums I've listened to recently:

Steven Wilson - The raven that refused to sing

Most of these are shockingly bad!
In the late sixties I was a regular visitor to the Marquee Club in Wardour Street. It was cheap! I’d watch Joe Cocker, Yes, Jethro Tull, The Who, Canned Heat, Muddy Waters, (Peter Green’s) Fleetwood Mac, Chicken Shack, Led Zeppelin (nee Yardbirds), but The Nice were my favourite band. Then when Keith Emerson moved on to form Emerson, Lake and Palmer, they took over. I would play the Tarkus Album loudly in my bedroom until my mum came upstairs to tell me to turn it down. She also complained that "it’s just noise!” After re-listening to their Drury Lane concert on Youtube a few years ago, I realised you were right mum - it is mostly noise!

The first 3 albums are all great! It took me a long time to appreciate Third though. I lose interest after Third... until Bundles anyway. But that's a different line-up and a different sound.Jon Tait wrote: ↑Sun Mar 28, 2021 9:43 pmVolume Two is my own favourite, but still... There is hardly such a thing as a "bad" SM album, but i think both Six and Seven have a fair amount to be said for them.

If I go back further to my next five CDs I get:
Near Truths & Hotel Rooms: Todd Snider
Singles: Future Islands
Hope is High: Florence & The Machine
My Piece of Land: Amanda Shires
The Race for Space/Remixes: Public Service Broadcasting
The last (which comes with a DVD) is a fair distance away from my usual taste these days but I do find it appealing https://www.npr.org/2014/05/05/30902678 ... sk-concert Anyone agree?
