In a footnote to the above I've just watched The Avengers this morning (ITV4) in which John Steed is soundly defeated at chess by the witness he is protecting (played by Angela Douglas). Needless to say the board was the wrong way round and the board/set looked like they had been purchased from W.H.Smith for about £3.00. Or was it Tara King? I thought Emma was karate? I suspect the programme makers wouldn't have a clue - it was just a fight sequence to them!
