Oddly enough, it has actually proved useful in chemistry. I took up nomenclature of chemicals at one point and some knowledge of Latin and Greek is useful. Reading Vergil or Caesar maybe less useful though...

I noticed the American weather service started to use the Greek Alphabet for named tropical storms this year because they ran out of letters in the English Alphabet.
I believe it's only the second time it has happened.

I am not sure to which question one you are referring.
