Here is an 80s music question.
Should be quite easy though.
No googling.
Where did the 80s group T'Pau get their name from?
T'Pau was Spock's mother.
How many ears did Spock have?

Three - a left ear, a right ear and a final front ear.

Ha ha - very good.

I hesitate to contribute to this thread but an album which perhaps might have been mentioned but hasn't been and which I have a soft spot for is Simple Minds' New Gold Dream (81/82/83/84).

There was a song that reached Number 1 in the charts in 1987 by The Firm called Star Trekkin.

Seriously, why are we discussing any band other than The Fall?
the thread should have ended there :)

There's a lot of good music from the 80s but also a lot of cheesy rubbish. The song that makes me laugh the most is the Spitting Image song 'Never met a nice South African'. That was pretty funny.

One cheesy song from the 80s, I remember was Rock Me Amadeus by Falco.
Also various songs by Black Lace.

There were indeed plenty of cheesy songs but the 70s had their fair share also...perhaps the 80s was worse for cheesy songs, like Star Trekkin for example.

Jive Bunny was very cheesy aswell.
There is a decent version of the Falco song with good intro.
This is it:
Falco --- Rock Me Amadeus
(Ultimate Canadian/American Version)
The heavy metal band Metallica brought out a version of Rock Me Amadeus.
They performed it at a concert a while back in Vienna.

Oh they play it live for sure, same as Take on Me by A-ha when they go to Norway. I don't think they would ever dare try to release it as a single...it's bad enough that they play it live.

The singer from Falco has a very tragic end to his life. A love of money and fast cars culminated in an accident which he could not survive.

Although the 80s had cheesy songs, at least they didn't have weird genres and strange spin-off bands like the 70s did. Acts such as the Sparks, Captain Beefheart, and Lieutenant Pigeon for example. I don't think the 80s got as strange as that.

EDITORIAL NOTE: one of these acts is not like the others.

In terms of genre yes but they all play strange stuff if you ask me.

Novelty singles? Not for me Geoff. But there are some one hit wonders I remember fondly, and I need to respond to this outrage in another thread:
