Week 18

I'm normally the last one to moan or whine about anything. Scotty Parker (Fulham) after hearing about the rearranged match with Spurs. Perhaps after a draw he's feeling more positive!

Just six fixtures; cancellations & rearrangements. Is it any wonder those managers in the know were reaching for their "Free Hit" card? Indeed those who didn't shuffle their team found themselves playing with half a squad. Low scorer (13 pts) Sabrina Chevannes with just five players on the field as none of her defenders were available at all; meanwhile Robert Ashworth and Kevin Williamson both made full use of their "Free Hit" chip to make the joint high total of 64 points. The top five teams are unchanged; as predicted last time there is now a 505 point gap to Alex Bullen's bottom side. Week 19 is another oddity with postponements already announced because of Covid plus some double matches.

1 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 48 1142
2 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 52 1129
3 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 49 1125
4 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 47 1117
5 Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 46 1107

Oop for the Cup We started with 120 teams and after 3 weeks have lost 90 of these with just 30 in the draw for Week 19.
Lowest placed qualifier is 100th placed John Wrench with Wrenchester United. By Week 23 we're normally left with a couple of teams. Let's see how we do this time.

Week 19

You are allowed to say your piece and fight for your side Sean Dyche after a tunnel bust-up with Jurgen Klopp.

It was a big week in Fantasy Football as most clubs had double matches. Consequently over 40 Premier Chess teams exceeded 100 points - so I haven't bothered to list them all - Richard Beach with 155 was first in line; this is the highest individual score I can remember but meanwhile at the back of the queue was Nigel Wright with 37 points and a drop of 850,000 places. The top teams shuffled around a little with John Garnett taking over the lead with his 136 point haul and a 40 point gap to 2nd placed Onos Kofi-Ofuafor. A 2nd quarter review to follow

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 140 1261
2 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 116 1221
3 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 77 1219
4 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 89 1218
5 Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 94 1189

Oop for the Cup 15 of our 30 remaining teams move on to Week 20; 13 are out and two have a penalty shoot out with level scores. I've not attempted to guess whether they will progress. Surprisingly both our top two teams were k.o'd leaving Lawrence Cooper the highest placed manager still in the competition.

Quarter Two - Weeks 11-19

We are at the half way stage of the League. Only seven teams featured in the top five. The two managers who dominated Quarter One have fallen away; Roland Graf disappeared in Week 14 and has now fallen well behind the pace whilst Rhys Cummings is still in contention but out of the top places. However what we have learned from last season is that as there is still half a season to go, challengers could well emerge. There are now just 13 players within 100pts reach of John Garnett who leads by a 40 point margin. The wooden spoon contest is closer to call with Alex Bullen and Dave Ledger detached from the main pack and over 600 points behind the leader

The second quarter figures are based on 5 pts for a first place down to 1 pt for fifth place, number of weeks in the top five in brackets (9 maximum)

1. CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 37 pts (9)
2. UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 30 pts (9)
3. Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 28 pts (8)
4= Free Wendy Roland Graf 11 pts (3)
4= Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 11pts (4)
6. #NolanOut Rhys Cumming 10pts (6)
7. Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 8pts (6)

Week 20

Recent results and performances have not met the Club’s expectations Chelsea FC statement as Frank Lampard sacked.

Last season John Peters came from nowhere in Week 37 and almost finished in first place; this time he appears for the first time in Week 20.
Unfortunately the Week 20 scores had been deleted whilst I wrote this; probable top scorer was Bartlomiej Zdybowicz on 81 points; but if you know different let me know. Low scorer is a bit of a mystery as well so I'll try to update these later!

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 54 1311
2 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 59 1276
3 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 48 1267
4 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 43 1261
5 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 65 1251

Oop for the Cup Both teams lost their tiebreaks leaving 15 going into Week 20; in traditional style we lost 50% so 7.5 were prospective candidates for Week 21. The 0.5 was a drawn match and this again wasn't in our favour on tiebreak. Lawrence Cooper is out so Kaia Means is the top rated of the seven remaining managers.

In Week 20 I scored 91, which after my 100+ in Week 19 saw me rise back to page 1. Unfortunately, I doubt I will get much higher as I am struggling to score 20 this week.

Thanks Dan for correcting me. Whilst I was writing my review the site went to the Week 21 update; helpfully giving everyone "null points." I'm thinking of bringing in a Blunder of the Week feature - after Harry Kane went on the long-term injury list (along with Jamie Vardy) I needed a new forward. Two choices looked promising - Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) or Callum Wilson (Newcastle) and what's more I'd select them as captain for the week - guess which one I picked ?? :?: :?:

Week 21

Football is quite easy when you're doing well and winning games Brighton manager Graham Potter.

The January transfer window has opened and closed with very little activity with the exception of Liverpool who brought in a couple of reserve centre-halves. Ozil and Drinkwater have disappeared to Turkey whilst Shane Long has moved the thirty odd miles down the South Coast from Southampton to Bournemouth. Despite his dire prediction earlier, Dan Lambourne's bid to move from top scorer to bottom failed as Alex Bullen with 21 points once again finished in 120th position for the week. Meanwhile front runner was Anthony Ibbitson on 88 points; two of the top five achieving an 80+ score.

1.UTB UTA UTQ 1. John Garnett 48 1359
2. CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 82 1349
3 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 85 1336
4 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 56 1324
5 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 56 1317

Oop for the Cup As usual we lost half of the teams; of the seven remaining managers three won, three lost and once again in the drawn mtach we went down on tiebreak. The three remaining managers are James Marley ("Dynamo Flick"), Richard York-Weaving ("Farcelona") and Matthew Timbrell (" Gini Mini Mane Mo")

Week 22

Brighton won the game and rightly so, deserved. Jürgen Klopp - we won't repeat Graham Potter from last week!

Game Weeks are coming fast and for some managers thick as well. It was a high scoring week although no-one managed to reach 100 points. Peter Finn was closest with 96 points whilst Colin Hughes took a great step backwards with 19 points and has firmly established his credentials for maintaining 118th place. Those managers who were unfortunate enough to have Jan Bednarek on the field were left with a -7 score as the unfortunate defender gave away an own goal, conceded a penalty and was sent off in Southampton's 9-0 thrashing at United. His red card has subsequently been rescinded but the original score, the lowest I can remember, remains. Thankfully I can't find anyone who selected him as captain when it would have been -14. No significant changes at the top.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 85 1444
2 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 74 1410
3 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 60 1409
4 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 79 1403
5 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 71 1388

And then there was one In time-honoured fashion we reach Week 23 with just one manager remaining in the Cup. We have lost two out of three from last week so congratulations to Richard York-Weaving whose team "Farcelona" is our last representative left.

Week 23

"Threats and abuse of this nature are totally unacceptable" Professional Games Managing Director Mike Riley after death threats against referee Mike Dean

In another high scoring week West Ham supporter David Grobler hit the heights with his team Bubbles United on 94 points. An honourable mention to Michael Tzanidakis (Greece) who was one point behind on 93 - a score which would have been well into three figures if his substitutes had played. The number of players in the League has increased by over 40 this season and quite where some have arrived from is a mystery; however I see that Michael has a FIDE rating card so that may well be the explanation. Bringing up the rear was David Blower on 26 points, with no transfers made since Week 8 and no chips played we may take it that David has lost interest. No changes in the top five.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 65 1509
2 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 75 1485
3 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 66 1475
4= Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 77 1465
4= Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 66 1465

Out Our last representative in the Cup Richard York-Weaving scored the week's average of 58; insufficient to beat his Finnish opponent Rasmus Pohjoiskoski who finnished on 70 points.

Meanwhile Sticking to our Scandinavian theme Ola Hovde (Norway) is still out in front for a 14th consecutive week and with 1698 points is 52 clear of his closest rival. Meanwhile in the chess24 Champions Chess Tour League at last some local success; Lawrence Cooper has overtaken Magnus Carlsen and is in first place, two points ahead of the World Champion.

Week 24

Why would we not enjoy being in the position we’re in? David Moyes

At about 5.00pm on Sunday I was confident of hitting the 100 point mark but at that point everything started to go wrong culminating in Wednesday's fixtures where Manchester City changed their line-up again and conceded an early goal against Everton. Anyway 17 managers did break the century barrier. Rich tea to Tasty Biscuitmen for their 128 point haul for top manager Eddy Hargreaves; meanwhile mere crumbs for low score of 22 from Colin Hughes with his Black Skywalker squad now firmly back in the race to the bottom after rejoining Dave Ledger and Alex Bullen at the foot of the table. Kaia Means (Norway) joins the top five for the first time; 12 players are within 100 points of leader John Garnett.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 104 1613
2 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 83 1568
3 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 93 1558
4 All is not lost Kaia Means 116 1554
5 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 75 1550

Overall Ola Hovde still leads - but the margin is now just 38 points as the pursuers make ground. Can he hold on there?

Yes ties in with betting scandals. Chelsea's win last night - oh a banned england player, dirty tricks. Great goal. Giroud free transfer..
