William Golding was a keen chess player. In fact he wrote a book about rook endings called Lord of the Files. He is also mentioned in the Even More Complete Chess Addict.

Noting here that the 2024-25 final of Mastermind featured a question about Demis. The question (in one of the general knowledge rounds) asked the contestant to say which Nobel category Demis Hassabis was awarded the prize in. The answer is Chemistry, but the contestant said Medicine.
