Week 38

They think it's all over. It is now Kenneth Wolstenholme

After 38 grueling weeks the final results are in (see above)! Both Joel Newman and Sam Herring might have overtaken leader Paul Cooksey but neither did. Both scored 70 points whilst Paul extended his lead by eleven points scoring 81 points. It was Paul's decision to field an all Spurs attack that was the deciding factor where Dejan Kulusevski (16 points, 2 goals) was the key difference between the three teams as Norwich were trounced 5-0. Top score of the week was from Mark Leonard whose team "Like a rubber ball" bounced in with 108 points - Anthony Kent's 109 points had a four point transfer deduction. One record was broken - Richard Dineley's score of 16 was a season's low in 8,971,853rd place

1 Don't Shoot Vinny Paul Cooksey 81 2672
2 Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 70 2653
3 Lanzini'sLamborghini Joel Newman 70 2643
4 Melvinho XI Melvin Pool 82 2613
5 Frying High Joe Friar 91 2594

Cup Final Muse is P1 (Tabs Ryan) 68-83 Kane and Ables (Patrick Coleman).

Congrats to Patrick and commiserations to Tabs who managed to reach three Cup Finals in Week 38 but lose all three! :cry:

Quarter Four Report - Weeks 30 to 38

The same five managers who had dominated the latter part of Quarter Three continued into the final quarter. James Marley who was in a consistent 5th place stepped aside for a couple of weeks to allow Joe Friar a cameo at the season's end. Usual methodology (5 pts for 1st place etc; number of weeks in brackets - nine maximum).

1. Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 42 pts (9)
2. Don't Shoot Vinny Paul Cooksey 38 pts (9)
3. Melvinho XI Melvin Pool 24 pts (9)
4. Lanzini'sLamborghini Joel Newman 22 pts (9)
5. Dynamo Flick James Marley 7 pts (7)
6. Frying High Joe Friar 2 pts (2)

Overall Season 2021-22

This is a report based on the total results for each quarter as detailed with 5 points for a first place down to one for 5th. I have taken four weeks as the minimum required to feature. Number of weeks in brackets (maximum 38).

The season was dominated by two players Sam Herring and Joel Newman who were there from the beginning and there at the end. Hugely consistent it was only in the last three weeks that they were overhauled by Paul Cooksey who progressed upwards from the second quarter onwards. The only other manager who featured throughout was Melvin Pool; no one else managed 50%.

1. Sam Herring 151 pts (35)
2. Joel Newman 112 pts (36)
3. Melvin Pool 93 pts (30)
4. Paul Cooksey 71 pts (24)
5. David Egginton 60 pts (17)
6. Matthew Timbrell 27 pts (12)
7. Richard York-Weaving 18pts (6)
8= Kaia Means 17 pts (9)
8= James Marley 17 pts (12)
10. Alec Leslie 9 pts (4)

A few random thoughts to end Season 2021-22 - as I expect 2022-23 to be appearing soon.

Paul Cooksey's final total of 2,672 was substantially higher than John Garnett's 2,551 winning score of 2020-21. That score would only have been in 8th position this season. There was a general increase in scores - in my case from 2189 to 2265 whereas my position in the League was unchanged. Even our low scorer was well ahead of the 2021 low scorer.

Moving on from this the winning score last season was 2,680 - just eight ahead of Paul's score whereas it took 2,844 to win this year, the winning team being Futbol is Life. None of the top ten managers were English - the winner was from the USA. I don't think this can be put down to inflation - it's simply that the best players scored more points this time. It didn't take Einstein to work out that Liverpool, Manchester City and Spurs players would fill nine of the top 10 places - the remaining player was Jarrod Bowen (West Ham) one of five players with 200+ points - the others being Salah, Son, Alexander-Arnold and Cancelo.

There were 9,000,000+ entries overall this year and our own League increased from 120 to 135. Only one player from the 2020-21 Top Ten made it this year - the ever consistent Sam Herring. Look forward to a new season with new players starting on 5th August. :D
