Peter isn't that aggressive with black, although he can grind for ever if the mood takes him. Presume he was content with the match situation.

Steve Coles died like a Tiger. Middlesex Tigers may soon become an endangered species given the match score.

Richard Bates has a good win with black on top board, but surely not enough for Middlesex

It was actually close to being stalemate - he only had one legal move at the end!MartinCarpenter wrote:Peter isn't that aggressive with black, although he can grind for ever if the mood takes him. Presume he was content with the match situation.

Tremendous win for Richard Bates against a Ledger: maybe Middlesex will do better than 2014.

Presume Dave winning on 10 formally wraps it up.
(8 - 3 but board count seems like it should be safe, not that it'll be needed.).

Yorkshire wins for Webb, Gantner, Nelson, Adams, Walton, Burnett with only 5 games in play, and they aren't going to lose them all
Well done to Yorkshire, they are just better than the rest at the moment

An interesting pawn race in a rook ending on board 9.

Well, that does have to be qualified slightly - yes, we're fielding much stronger teams for the finals than anyone else. Not quite sure why.Mick Norris wrote:Well done to Yorkshire, they are just better than the rest at the moment
The 1/4's and 1/2's? Those teams were fairly vunerable and the match results were close. Same vs Lancashire actually, not that it counted for anything formal!
Fantastic result(s) though. We'd somehow not even won two in a row before this run so three is very good going Seems to have happened 5 times before historically, Lancashire did 4 times in a row in the 60's so that's something to aim at!

Steven Coles is of course not a cheat.Andrew Bak wrote:It was actually close to being stalemate - [Steven Coles] only had one legal move at the end!
If he were, he might have tried not playing Qe8-h8+ immediately, but instead dropping the Queen over f7. Then, while correctly replacing the dislodged pieces in his own time, he could have "restored" the Black pawn on f7 to h5. That done, play Qh8+ and press the clock quickly, and there we are.

Re: Finals day 2 July
It was Worcestershire's first win in any ECF competition ever. I played in this team for many years but was ineligible for the last year or two due to my grade being too high. It appears I was merely holding them back all those years from their true potential.Neil Graham wrote: U140:- Surrey 6 Worcestershire 10

That was the ECF County Championships that was (or will be when I sort out the grading files next week). Well done to all winners and indeed to all of the many players who took part.
