"Trident College, Trident Park, Poseidon Way"

I see a theme there - ironic that Warwick is no far from the sea...

Well, it looks to be much more in Leamington Spa anyway :)

It will be interesting to see if Kent's success in getting three sides to the final leaves them with weakened teams in two of them...

? Three Kent teams in Finals.

In any event, I can promise that there is no player clash between Kent OPEN team and my U120 team!

Good luck to all today (and with an MCCU bias, especially Notts) - hope the travelling is good for all

Live games

I think the results will be updated live here:

and there should be running commentary on here:

Excellent that we have live games from the Open Final but surely Atkinson-O'Driscoll on board 15 was a draw - unless there was some kind of telephone issue!

Board 5, Snape-Nelson, has been very entertaining and is about to end in White's favour, I think. Yorkshire seemed to be a lot better generally half an hour ago but I'm not quite so sure now. (Edit @ 17:15: swinging strongly to Yorkshire again.)

Yorkshire 7-3 up with six games left, and it looks possible that Board 5 will be Kent's only full point.

Board five is not as sure a Kentish win as it appeared a while back. Black is threatening a perpetual check and it is not entirely clear how White can avoid it despite his overwhelming material advantage. (EDIT: Ah! White could have found the way - giving up a rook and playing Qc8 - the computer greatly approves of that...)

Snape played that game very well until getting in a tangle near the end. He made it though. Yorkshire are miles ahead. They can even afford to have snatched a draw from the jaws of victory on Bd 16

Yorkshire have done the cricket and chess county double. They are over the winning line with 8½-4½, which is likely to become 10½-5½ (EDIT: Actually finished 11-5). Well done them. Snape's solitary win for Kent was the most entertaining game. As a K.I.D. player I felt sorry for Nelson: it's the sort of thing that King's Indian players fear but occasionally have to suffer.
