Lagno drops a pawn in the first game of the quick rapid and now needs to win as Black to stay in the match.

Aha, a Hippo
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Oh,that's an abrupt end and a sad one. Lagno puts her queen en prise and Ju wins on the spot.

Wouldn't have minded watching a longer classical match between these two. Very entertaining.

The blunders are all there on the board, waiting to be made. (Tartakower)

Yes indeed

Better I think that Ju stays as World Champion for longer than a few months, and an amazing performance from her overall to win this event

Getting a proper cycle has started, and a proper match to follow would be good (whatever Alex H may think  )

But after this tournament I want to have some rest and just live for a while because it was tedious

We are going to shift to a standard format that prevails in chess where the champion will defend the title against the winner of the Candidates Tournament that will be organized next year. And in the future we will have both the FIDE Grand Prix series and the World Cup played according the knock-out system. A number of players qualified by rating and the best ones of the GP series and the World Cup will play in the Candidates tournament. That means that all the players who have already got their rights to participate in the knock-out tournament will keep their rights. There will be no harm for anyone while there will be clear benefits for high-level players.

I would like to think that "tedious" was not, in context, a perfect translation from her native language. "Draining", perhaps.

I wish I could have asked her whether she now intends to play a role on the Presidential Board. Most World Champions don't but Alexandra Kosteniuk did and was very welcome. Ju Wenjun will now find a friend at court in Zhu Chen.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a QR code stamped on a human face — forever.

The transcript is wrong. She actually said "tiring".

Jovanka Houska's final report with some great analysis which Mick will be pleased to see. Jovanka mentions how unhappy she was with the biased pro-Russia commentary during the final match and tie-breaks. In particular Morozevich was very severe on Ju, continually criticising her approach to the game and her poor technique. I personally couldn't see the difference with the "anti-chess" Ju was alleged to have played which, in his opinion, consisted of playing risk free waiting moves ie not playing chess, rather than taking chances, with what's going on in the Carlsen-Caruana match. Double standards? Here are a couple of examples from the commentary:

"Such a shame she will win the title with this anti-chess "

"Ju plays opposite colour bishop +rook endings like a 2200 Max."

(Dismissively) "Let me have a look, I am used to women's chess".

Anyone else pick up any comments like these?

Indeed :D

Interesting when there is talk of playing the Women's WC match alongside the other, that the match didn't get enough attention because of Carlsen - Caruana
