Hard to answer this, Nick, without knowing whether you perceive those "best efforts" as being directed at Baroness Hale personally or at all female judges/barristers. It is certainly true, for example, that Lady Hale (as she then was) was only the fourth woman to be appointed to the UK Supreme Court.
