Originally, the report was the Olympiad would be in Moscow, and the Paralympiad would be in Khanty-Mansiysk.

You know how the 4NCL sometimes gets bad PR because the distance between Division 1/2 and Division 3/4 is a long way? Well, the 1600 miles between Moscow and Khanty-Mansiysk rather put that problem into perspective.

It looks as if the context is that they've come up with the idea of copying the Olympics and holding a para-Olympiad. This would be in Siberia with the main Olympiad and the FIDE Congress moved to Moscow.

The Chess Paralympiad was my idea, by the way. I got on a plane to propose it to Arkady Dvorkovich, in Bratislava, earlier this year. He agreed to the idea immediately, and even came up with the precise format. This was approved by the Presidential Board in Baku.

So the latest seems to be that the Olympiad and Closing Ceremony will be in Moscow, but everything else (Opening Ceremony, Paralympiad, FIDE Congress & General Assembly) will be held in Khanty-Mansiysk. Luckily, it's only a 3,200-mile round trip.

If the Congress is held at a different time to the Olympiad - which it surely has to be - then one of the big advantages of the Olympiad in having everything in one place at the same time to the benefit of saving people's time and money, will also disappear. I assume FIDE will end up paying for people's flights to get around that problem, but that's not much good for those of us who have other commitments and have arranged their summer accordingly.

There will of course be the opportunity for Federations' delegates to ask questions about all of this at the 2019 FIDE Congress, which will take place from …. to …. in ….

I can't fill in the blanks for some reason. Can anyone out there help me?

According to Emil Sutovsky's Facebook page, details of the 2019 General Assembly, which were absolutely-definitely-nothing-can-go wrong-this-time going to be announced today, will now be known on Wednesday.

I'm not expecting to hear much about the new arrangements for the 2020 GA for a while.

The timing for the Congress is a bit tight. Additional expenditure will will be incurred by federations and Commissions which are generally able to combine their duties at the Congress and the Olympiad

There's even less of a clash with the British Championships, which will run from 18th July to 26th July with a four day extension to 31st July for junior events to avoid clashes with late finishing school terms.

Presumably except for detail on the "Seniors Rated" event in the second week and the lobbying to remove the junior restrictions from the U100 and U110, the British dates are now set in stone.

Curiouser and curiouser.

I know it is election purdah for the government at this moment so will not speculate whether we will be asked to boycott events let alone any financial matters for ECF. Sponsorship issues etc.
