Oh that's interesting, but is there any more to that than total speculation?
Here's a paragraph from Malcolm's editorial.
Malcolm Pein (January 2019 Chess) wrote: Well it's all connected with Garry's desire to get the FIDE World Championship to St Louis. As well as the Kremlin, Kasparov was also to blame for his election defeat alongside Makro's unpopularity in Africa, something exploited by the CEO of the Kasparov Chess Foundation Africa.

I guess I ought to try and see this editorial which isn't on the free pdf (the November one was).

Fair point from Nigel: Congrats to the Iranian stars Sara Khadem (2nd place) and Alireza Firouzja (6th) on their great performances in the King Salman World Rapid Chess Ch. Had the "money above dignity" Makro administration been elected, it is highly unlikely that they could have participated.

When they couldn't play last year, wasn't he the first to sign up?

Dani Dubov  What a hero! I do hope it's a fair translation. My estimation of him just went through the roof!

Dvorkovich has also appointed four Continental assistants, two of which are Kramnik & Anand. Haven't got a clue what their job is though.

If this is true VG Report then maybe we should ask him if he wants to come here and play for England

Why would he want to play for England. He could get nobbled with a nerve agent. He will probably not be allowed in.
I doubt whether ECF or clubs will be able to pay him to make it worth his while.
Yes a hero but is not a great career move is it?

Also Rupert Jones ( again ) in a position likely to be closer to his heart than Swiss Pairings.
