They like long sessions in Guernsey. At one time it was 50 moves in two and a half hours, followed by adjournment and continuing at 20 moves an hour. It was possible for one game to last almost the entire tournament and sometimes they did.

Thanks, Lawrence. That sounds a lot more reasonable.

They do have a proper time-control. Most games finish after about 4 hours, the time-control Roger alluded to caused loads of games to finish after about 5 hours, or be adjourned. I had one 133 move game which took up an afternoon and three mornings. Happily, that won't happen again.

Exactly 100 players now.

Live games don't appear to be working which is a shame.

Computer problems - I imagine the resident IT expert will be sorting it out for tomorrow. The pairing software went berserk as well, so it's been a bit of a nightmare. I can report Korneev (top seed) had a half-point bye. so top pairings were:-

1. J Le Roux - M Staples
2. K de Kruif - T Hillarp-Persson
3. D Abbas - I Campbell
4. M French - C Parligras
5. K Norman 0-1 K Thurlow
6. S Lehmann - D Hoogland
7. D Maloberti - D Sedgwick

If the IT problems aren't sorted out, I'll try to do some sort of report. Board 5 was moved at about move 6 as the boards were a bit close together, and it affected Ken more than me, so he lost the game, I didn't win it!

He has been handed a tricky pairing (D Abbas) on board 11, so he's not far off the live boards ... It would be nice to have all 3 playing IA/FA titleholders on the live boards.

That's a thought. However, as the weakest of the three, I fear that I'm likely to go on letting the side down.

I blew that chance a couple of year ago.

Sedgwick v Jaunooby, Hastings Masters 2014-2015, was on a live board. I was a filler.

However, from my perspective, it was a game to forget.
