The FIDE rated open resulted in a seven way tie on 4/5 between Grandmasters Keith Arkell & Bogdan Lalic, IM Alexei Slavin, FM Martin Taylor, Alex Longson and two of our most promising juniors, Brandon Clarke and Peter Williams, the latter of which qualified for the British Championships.

Several rating performances stood out; Martin Taylor performed at 2484, Brandon Clarke 2457, Peter Williams 2435 and I would also like to congratulate Yang-Fan Zhou who by scoring 3/3 against rated players took his rating over 2400 for the first time meaning he now just needs 1 more IM norm to qualify for the title.

The FIDE rated Major was won by Mustapha Othman of Nigeria with 5/5 ahead of John Tobisch who scored 4.5 whilst Martin Muir and Robert Taylor shared 3rd= with 4.

Five English Grandmasters took part:

Michael Adams defeated GM Vitali Golod and drew with IM Robert Ris, Luke McShane scored 2/2 against FM Benjamin Bok and Predrag Nikolic, David Howell drew with IM Stefan Bromberger and beat GM Roman Slobodjan, Stewart Haslinger had two draws against GMs Raj Tischbierek & Peter Prohaszka whilst Stephen Gordon beat IM Gunter Speiss and drew with IM Alexander Belezky.
