European Blitz Chess Championship 17th December 2010

Gawain Jones was 34th seed but scored 17.5/26 to finish 14th whilst David Moskovic scored 14/26. The event was a double round event and 10 of Gawain’s opponents were GMs including Ivanchuk, Gashimov and Movesesian who are all rated over 2700. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave won with 22/26, whilst Vassily Ivanchuk finished 2nd with 20 and Ruslan Ponomariov was third with 19.5.

Gawain Jones finished on 9/13 after a last round loss to GM Baadur Jobava rated 2707. He played a great tournament though including a win against GM Sergei Rublevsky rated 2678. David Moskovic finished on 8.5, defeating English resident IM Roland Berzinsh from Latvia in the last round. First place was shared between GMs Zoltan Almasi, Vassily Ivanchuk, Vugar Gashimov, Anton Korobov and Alexei Shirov on 10.5.

Adam Hunt, Nathan Alfred and Sabrina Chevannes are playing in Tournoi A. After round 4 Adam has 3.5 (including a black win against GM Tornike Sanikidze rated 2558 and a draw against GM Tigran Gharamian rated 2650), Nathan has 2 and Sabrina has 1.5.
