The opening Bundesliga weekend saw four English Grandmasters in action; Michael Adams playing for Baden-Baden, Luke McShane playing for Werder Bremen and Stewart Haslinger and Stephen Gordon were playing for SG Trier who have also recruited David Howell for this season.

Sean Hewitt’s e2e4 FIDE rated events are widely regarded as the best organised and most popular tournaments in England. His latest venture takes place in Uxbridge from the 24th to 28th October. There are two sections, the Premier is a nine round international open with GM, IM, WGM and WIM norm possibilities. Entries so far include Grandmasters Nick Pert, Danny Gormally and Keith Arkell. There are also prizes of £750 first, £500 second, £250 third and £100 fourth as well as several £100 rating prizes.
There is also a junior international with a first prize of £600 which is open to all players born on or after 1st January 1989. There are also prizes for the highest score by Under 16, 15, 14, 13, 12 and 11.
