The junior international at Paignton has been cancelled, sadly.

The side events taking place during the congress are a talk by Peter Purland on Monday at 7.30pm, a simul by Mickey Adams on Tuesday at 7pm, a civic reception hosted by the President of DCCA on Weds at 8pm, and a blitz tournament on Thurs at 7.30pm.

http://www.chessdevon.co.uk/HTML/congre ... n/base.htm has all of the information for the congress on one page.

It was hard for me to see how a junior event could get a lot of entries, when it took up the first week of a new school year. I couldn't quite see the thinking behind it. I hope the rest the event goes really well and it is nice to see Mickey returning to his West Country roots.

Yes, strange that. I noticed this tournament and assumed that schools go back after 9th September in some parts of the country.

The problem was that it was hoping for a considerable international entry, which didn't happen seemingly because Britain is too expensive. It was heavily advertised at the events the National Junior Squad attends.

Was it advertised internationally? Does continental Europe (for example) have different term times to the UK?

Yes, and I don't know, but probably. I know continental Europe (or at least large parts of it) start their academic years from Jan 1st, so their term times are probably different as well. However, i have done no research into this so cannot be sure
