World Open 2010 Philadelphia, USA, June 29-July 5

Congratulations to Luke McShane who despite being 13th seed finished 2nd= in the open with GMs Harikrishna & Smirin scoring 7/9, half behind the winner GM Viktor Laznicka from the Czech Republic. Luke faced an average rating of 2561 and played against six GMs scoring wins against Onischuk rated 2699 in round 2 and Shabalov rated 2585 in the last round.

Kanwal Bhatia finished on 3.5/7 in the U2200.

ROC Nova College Tournament 2-4 July

Congratulations to Matthew Sadler who was playing his first standard play tournament for many years. He won the Group A tournament with 5/6 against an average of 2414 including 3 out of 4 against GMs. Stewart Haslinger also played and scored 3.5.

Mike Haslinger played in the Group B event and finished 4th= with 4.5/6.

Alex Mcfarlane, can you spot any future international tournaments missing from the above list?

I will see you Alex on Saturday for the 117th Scottish Chess Championships (including International Open) starting on Sunday 11 July.

Guys, have you seen the on site student accomodation rates? £85 for the week, £15 per night.
