Wei Yi looked very calm, politely shaking hands with Gukesh and wandering away from the board. Then he suddenly noticed the crowd applauding wildly and gave a little wave and a warm smile.

Is this Wei Yi's best ever result?
I'd say that it is.

Wei Yi seems to have been around forever, so it is easy to forget that he is still only 24. When the Feb rating list appears, I think that the only younger player above him ( and not by much ) will be Firouzja.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a QR code stamped on a human face — forever.

Yes, his live rating is just above his previous high aged 18, and he's 9th with Firouzja 6th

It probably helps judge the youngsters coming up behind him, in the sense we can't be certain they'll keep increasing their rating

I'm just catching up with the Challengers, and Chess Mind pointed me to the short video from Erwin L'Ami which puts the chess into perspective

A very moving video, where Erwin L'Ami talks about his cancer diagnosis and his treatment, and the impact on his chess and perspective on life. Well worth watching.
