A hard-fought tournament is in progress. Game of the Round featuring myself and a well-known forum favourite can be found at the new You Tube channel, UK Chess Events.

Below is a permanent link to the ITV Central feature story on the Nottingham Centenary GM and Junior tournaments, which took place this week from October 30-November 3.

The Grandmaster tournament was deservedly won by Ukrainian GM Eldar Gasanov. It was a pleasure to meet Eldar and see him in action - a great competitor and a true gentleman of the game!

Great fighting chess throughout and promising performances by Nottingham players IM Jonah Willow (2nd= on 6/9) and Ankush Khandelwal (4th= on 5/9). Both were in contention for norms until the very end...

The Junior Tournament run alongside was a triumph for Nottingham's Furkan Bahtiyar (1st on 8/9) and all the other players, for whom this was their first time playing a classical FIDE-rated all-play-all tournament. You could see them learning so much as the week went on, and enjoying the experience.

Two FIDE Arbiter norms were registered for John S. Shaw and Hambel Willow - great work throughout!

Congratulations to all players and organisers from Nottinghamshire Chess Association on a great event, with excellent sportsmanship and dedicated behind-the-scenes work.

The Nottingham Mechanics Institute were fantastic hosts, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

Hopefully this will be the first of many more FIDE-rated title norm tournaments organised in Nottingham.
