Coulsdon Easter International 2010

Post by Scott Freeman » Thu Jan 07, 2010 8:38 pm

Just flagging that we will be holding another IM norm event and attached Challengers section from Easter Monday through that week to the Friday. Both 9 round, 10 player round robins. Players are invited to express interest for both events now by emailing [email protected]. For those who really want to chess themselves out, we also have a FIDE Rated Open (5 rounds) on the Friday and Saturday of Easter weekend (obviously a British Championship qualifier). And in fact we have another of those as part of our New Year Congress this Saturday & Sunday (9-10 Jan) - and we are going ahead.

The field is almost complete but we have 1 space left - we are ideally looking for someone rated 2246 or higher. They can be of any nationality and can be without a title as well. In addition, we have a couple of spaces left in the Challengers' round robin event where you can win a free entry into one of the norm events.

NORM EVENT FIELD (with 1 space to fill)
2529 IM Michael Feygin (GER)
2493 GM Bogdan Lalic (CRO)
2362 IM Augustin Madan (ROU)
2357 FM David Eggleston (ENG)
2295 FM Yang-Fan Zhou (ENG)
2288 IM Richard Tozer (ENG)
2125 WFM Meri Grigoryan (ENG)
2102 Peter A Williams (ENG)
1980 Dominic Gibbs (ENG)
(Dominic will be treated as 2050 according to FIDE rules when calculating norm figures)

Entry Fee £180 for non-titled players or £140 to FM/WFM/WIM/WGM

Thanks for posting that info Scott, I hope you have a successful event. To clarify, the 10th player can be any nationality except English. Nice to see several young players getting an opportunity of a norm.

That's a good lineout.

Best of luck to Yang-Fan Zhou and Peter Williams.

We do need one more player though! Ideally rated 2246 or higher - trying to clarify whether it needs to be a foreign player.

Also, there are possibly 3-4 spaces left in the Challengers event underneath it if anyone fancies a crack at that.

If it's a 10 player all play all then you need 4 foreigners for it to count for norm purposes. Hope that helps.

I agree with Sean and Loz though I would word it slightly differently by saying it needs to be a non-English registered player.

That does seem to be correct. I had previously had it in my head that because the 3 titled players were all non-English that meant the English players were all facing one third of their field as non-English so it would be OK. Obviously not the case. Am working on that accordingly.

One of the other players is wanting to pull out because of transport problems so I may now have 2 places left. One can be English! :)
