Re: 2024 Candidates qualification revised process
You can just see a slew of lawsuits on the horizon, can't you?

Re: 2024 Candidates qualification revised process
Alireza wins game 1 of match 2 as his opponent resigns, with seconds left on his clock, believing that Alireza had a winning tactic. For those who can speak French (or even those that don't) the commentary at the end of the game (around 3 hours 30) is entertaining.

So is his live rating rising quickly enough to achieve the desired result? I presume you would not go to the effort of arranging such a series of matches without the end result being what you want. At what point will FIDE confirm whether or not they will rate the matches?

2754.9 after today's win; if he wins the next game he goes to 2756.7, with So on 2757.4

Re: 2024 Candidates qualification revised process
If his live rating at the end of the matches remains below Wesley's they may allow them to be rated. If it's above then they have a decision to make. A further twist could be if (for whatever reason) the results aren't rated until the February list.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 12:57 pmSo is his live rating rising quickly enough to achieve the desired result? Re: 2024 Candidates qualification revised process
He plays white v Fedorchuk this afternoon, a win would take his rating above So; presumably he plays him tomorrow as black too, and will need to win that to avoid his rating dropping back below So

Re: 2024 Candidates qualification revised process
If the figures are correct, then Giri needs at least 13.52 points at the World Rapid or Blitz to improve his score to match Gukesh, more if Gukesh further improves his score

Re: 2024 Candidates qualification revised process
I think there is an error lower down. So's score is listed below Arjun (who is showing as finishing second). I don't know if that means that Gukesh's score is higher than it should be but will leave it to those in the know to work it all out.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 2:17 pmIf the figures are correct, then Giri needs at least 13.52 points at the World Rapid or Blitz to improve his score to match Gukesh, more if Gukesh further improves his score

Yes, there's an error there
I reckon Giri needs either top 4 in the Rapid or top 2 in the Blitz at a very rough calculation

Re: 2024 Candidates qualification revised process
Chess by the numbers has Erigaisi needing to win the Rapid; Giri needs to win the Blitz or come in the top 3 in the Rapid; on rating, you wouldn't favour eitherMick Norris wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 2:57 pmYes, there's an error there

It would seem weird if a Candidates place was clinched with a performance at a faster time control
