the link quoting Karjakin
help in every way to ensure that our players and coaches do not go abroad in search of a better life,

Hasn't the past nine months seen something of an exodus, mostly in protest about Russian action against Ukraine? Svidler being one of the more recent to become public knowledge.

There's a list here which says Svidler had been wrongly reported as having left; is there any other news on this?
Any postings on here represent my personal views

At the Ginger GM crypt blitz in October he mentioned that he was still based in St Petersburg when not working in other countries eg He spent time in America for the August/September events he was commentating on.

Of possibIy more interest is the specuIation that FIDE president Arkady Dvorkovich might decide to reIocate. He presumabIy won't have endeared himseIf to the Russian authorities by endorsing (see quote at https://tass.com/sport/1535409) the FIDE refusaI to aIIow Karjakin, who has been vocaI in his support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine, to compete in the WorId Rapid & BIitz Iater this month under the Russian nationaI fIag.

Reading that list puts me in mind of one of the best numbers from CHESS the musical. "Russia must be empty!"

Filatov defeated Karjakin by 58 votes to 7.

It was the proverbial choice between a rock and a hard place, although I doubt whether the delegates saw it that way.
