20th Bangkok Chess Club Open

Post by Matt Bridgeman » Sat Oct 22, 2022 12:56 pm

It looks on Chess24 that the 2 2600+ top seeds have lost in 26 and 23 moves to 1900’s. If that’s right, it sounds like a bit of a first?

The 1900’s weren’t really in the young fast improving player category exactly. One 1900 was around 20 years old, and the other 69, playing their first FIDE games in 5 years.

Presumably just wrong.

Ah yes, I see they changed it.

Quite a strong field and a first appearance for the Norwegian number 2.

From Nigel on Twitter:

Not for the first time in my life, I allowed mate in one. Perhaps it will be the last time in a serious game.

I allowed mate in 1, in a drawn position, and my opponent said to me “Good game!” Perhaps he meant well, but it is far better to stay silent than to suffer from verbal incontinence.
