England has four teams taking part, one in the women's event and three in the open.

No, she's very much Indonesian. When she has been in Europe though she has played for the team in the 2019-20 & 2021-22 4NCL seasons. A bit more info on her: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irene_Kharisma_Sukandar

That is disappointing! But good to see this strong team, and the high participation rate from the UK generally. Maybe some pent up demand being released post-covid restrictions.

Paul - do you actually believe that players transferring nationality in the manner that you suggest is a good thing? I can see that for some individuals it might carry some financial benefits but being a chess role model in Indonesia seems just as valuable a contribution to growing the global chess community as joining England.

I do welcome strong players joining our Federation. I am not advocating we poach players from other federations.
