Hi Matt,

Somebody always has to come last in any tournament
A point I have made myself before.

Still, there's coming bottom of a relatively close field - and then there's getting slapped about in almost every game.

I hope it doesn't affect him too much longer term.

He is 37 years old, so has presumably learned to deal with setbacks. His participation in this tournament was the prize for a single exceptional tournament result.

Lovely finish by Niemann against Moridiabadi. Could have been used for coaching as a tactical training problem. For those that haven't seen it ... Black to play.

Talking of finishes
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Niemann wins again, to put him back on 50%.

His best win, too - the others relied rather heavily on his opponent self-destructing. Of course, he has also done that himself twice.

Yu has white against Krush this evening.

Alice Lee will not be pleased to have drawn this one

Shocker.

Meanwhile Thalia Cervantes has gone from 3/7 to 8/12 and is no longer tilting at windmills; could even win the tournament if she beats Yu in the last round.

Niemann makes it three wins in a row!

Aronian also gets his first full point, no real surprise who against.

How long will it be before someone claims that Hans touched his king and didn't then move it?
